CANON HISTORY: Have a wiki link!
CANON PERSONALITY: Determined, brave, and selfless -- even when she tries not to be. Yuna is a honest, sincere person with a strong heart who cannot not help others; something that has gotten her into trouble before, and doubtless will again. She decided to take the responsibility of saving the world onto her shoulders at a young age, and feels it's her duty to ensure everyone's happiness and safety. Yuna's feeling of duty in this regard is so strong that she regularly sets aside her own needs and desires; something that she's been working on. Since the end of her Pilgrimage, Yuna has been making a concentrated effort to put herself first. It doesn't always work, and sometimes it doesn't exactly go well - but she's living for herself, and doing the things she wants to do.
>On Religion:
When Yuna started her Pilgrimage she was reserved, formal, and always put the people of Spira before herself. Raised by the temple's teachings, Yuna was a devout believer in Yevon. She had the utmost faith in her religion, and great respect for its leaders; she would follow any instruction given to her by them, believing it to be for the good of all Spira. Questioning the temple's methods or intentions wasn't something she did.
Over the course of her Pilgrimage, Yuna's faith was shattered. The Maesters - all but one - were power-hungry and corrupt. The entire religion she and everyone else had built their lives around was a sham. The line that she and everyone else believed, that Sin would disappear when the people of Spira had atoned, was and always had been nothing but a lie. The laws and tenets of the religion, supposedly built to guide Spira to a Sin-free world, was instead created to prevent the people from realizing that there couldn't be an end to Sin, and to keep the people in power right where they wanted to be.
Branded a heretic, Yuna was excommunicated; and very quickly snapped up a rather large amount of skepticism for organized religions from that point on. When New Yevon was formed a short while after she saved the world and exposed the lies and corruption of Yevon, she was distinctly uncomfortable. And when the Youth League rose in direct competition to New Yevon, that didn't make things any better. Thanks to Yevon, Yuna knows how easily leaders can become twisted and evil; and how difficult it is for their follows to see and/or believe that they do not have good intentions in their hearts. To say that Yuna's developed something of a mild authority problem would be an understatement.
>On Selfishness vs Selflessness
Yuna can't seem to the find the line that straddles taking care of her own needs, and looking after others'. Her heart always tells her to help everyone else, to do absolutely everything in her power to look after them; and her head meanwhile tells her that she deserves the right to look after herself, and pursue the things that she wants to have in her life. It's okay to want more is something that she's had to tell herself, while at the same time feeling: I have to do this for everyone else.
A lot of the time, it comes down to outside influences to decide on her course of action. She wants to go off and search for clues about a mysterious recording her cousin showed her, but everyone is counting on her to help them find new paths to follow after she destroyed the religion that had been guiding them? A push from her cousin encourages her to do what she wants, rather than what she feels is her duty. Conversely, she doesn't want to hold a performance, but doing so would help calm the world's collective aggression and bring happiness to people; so with a push from her friends, she chooses duty over desire.
In this regard, Yuna can appear to be easily coerced or led to do things. However, it only holds true if she was already considering doing it. Even during her Pilgrimage, when anyone tried to convince Yuna to take an action she hadn't had time to think over, she would politely defer until she had time to consider her options. These days, Yuna is more confident in assertively shutting down any attempts to force decisions upon her; and she doesn't take kindly to anyone who tries to press the issue.
>Pre- vs Post-Pilgrimage
During her Pilgrimage, Yuna considered it to be a Summoner's responsibility to ensure they brought joy and hope to every person they came across. She believed it would only hurt or concern people if they saw a Summoner who was sad, or doubtful; and so from a young age, she practiced smiling. No matter her feelings, she would smile; she would laugh; she wouldn't let the people of Spira add her to their list of things to worry about. Along with this, Yuna believed that expression any hopes or desires other than those of defeating Sin and bringing peace, would be unbecoming of her as a Summoner and as a High Summoner's daughter. So she basically spent her life hiding her real self away, and presenting to the world what she and they expected her to be.
The events of her Pilgrimage taught Yuna that concealing these parts of herself wasn't really helpful or necessary. Being polite and respectful didn't stop Seymour from trying to kill her Guardians; smiling didn't stop people from worrying about her; hiding her feelings didn't stop them from growing. With the help of the Gullwings, Yuna's experimented with being true to herself and opening up about her thoughts, opinions, and feelings. There are still times where she'll hesitate to express herself, or where she'll choose diplomacy over complete honesty, but she's not trying to disguise herself any more.
POINT OF DEPARTURE: Post-final boss, pre-ending.
VETERAN?: Pre-Moebius
ABILITIES: Yuna's abilities for the most part come from her Dresspheres. By herself, she doesn't have much in the way of abilities. She has an affinity for White Magic, along the lines of curative magic (your standard Final Fantasy Cure/Cura/Curaga/Esuna/etc); holy magic (Pray, Holy, etc), and if there were Fayth around she'd be able to Summon. But the Fayth are all gone (and wouldn't have been in any world other than Spira anyway), so Summoning is definitely moot. She can also perform the Sending, which guides lingering/disturbed spirits to rest.
Yuna does need a staff for her magic, Summoning, and Sending; a piece of equipment that she does not regularly carry with her any more. If she were to qualify for any equivalences, they'd be pretty much all Colour Magic-based.
INVENTORY: 2x Tiny Bee pistols and that's about it! (Since having Dresspheres would basically eliminate the point of picking up abilities/skills, it's probably best to just leave them at the door.)
ANYTHING ELSE WE SHOULD KNOW? she can hold her breath for at least five minutes while playing an intensive sports game underwater, can pull off a good song/dance combo when she needs to, and isn't shabby at acrobatics.
M A R K S;
JUSTIFICATION: Death, Lovers, Judgement.
Death - Yuna and her Guardians ended the cycle of Sin, disrupted the religion that had been controlling Spira, and forced the entire world to have to rapidly change to deal with both of those things. Yuna herself has changed drastically from when she embarked on her Pilgrimage. She's had to say painful goodbyes; to her father, when he began his own Pilgrimage to give up his life to defeat Sin; to Sir Auron, her father's Guardian before her; to the Fayth, with whom she'd developed deep trust and friendship; to every person she met on her Pilgrimage, with the expectation that she would shortly die; and to the boy from a Zanarkand 1000 years in the past, who helped her learn love and determination to 'find another way'. Every pain and hurt has helped her to grow and evolve as a person.
Judgement - Hope and new beginnings certainly are things associated with Yuna! Defeating Sin was supposed to be the end of Yuna's life; instead, it created an entirely new life for her, and gave her the opportunity to do anything she wanted to do. She was a symbol of hope for Spira, and delivered true on that by saving the world not once; but twice. When Yuna makes a decision she sticks to it, even if it means going against the status quo.
Lovers - the entirety of X-2 started as Yuna's Quest To Find Her Boyfriend, so if nothing else she's good drama to add to Lovers' collection.
VETO: go for your lives, I'm good with any of them.
